Will He Ever Come Back ?

I am told that dogs live in the present and when you, as the owner, leave them they don't know that you are coming back. Now you know why they are so excited to see you when you do return. This dog was so excited to see it's master.

This Bird Has The Moves

This is the third Hummingbird in the series. I'll move on to other topics tomorrow, but for those that enjoy these tiniest of birds I'll post more in the future.

Weighing In At Less Than A Penny

I didn't believe it myself but it's true. Some Hummingbirds do weigh less than a penny. Some do weigh more. Whether this Hummingbird weighs in at less than a penny or not, the view is certainly worth more than that, right?

Hummingbird Chillin

I had the best time yesterday. My friend Claud and his family had a Memorial celebration and while I was there Claud mentioned he had about twenty Hummingbirds on the property. I shot about 400 images, this is one of them. Enjoy.

Mom Makes A Baker's Dozen

This was an amazing view. Mom Mallard taking care of a dozen ducklings. The ducklings listened good, mom would quack and all twelve would race close to her.

One Little Duckling

Not much to say today, just enjoyed seeing the family of Mallard ducks swimming in the lake.

A Little Woodland Creature

Always a pleasure to come across one of the little woodland creatures. This squirrel wanted to come along with me as I sought out the song birds.

The Hawk Is Gone But The Images Linger On

How does a photographer explain the joy that is felt having captured images like the past few days of postings. It was a twelve year old boy, fishing with his father on a mountain lake, that saw a Bald Eagle for the first time. I guess that twelve year old boy is still inside of me.

Danger Averted, Returning To Base

The eagle flew around, circling the eagle's nest high in a tall tree and then landed in another tree. Always vigilant, always watching.

It Was Amazing To See

I was totally focused, no pun intended, on the defending eagle. Oh how I would have liked to see the face of the offending hawk as the eagles streaked threw the sky, protecting their turf.

A Hawk Entered The Eagles "NO FLY ZONE"

I was just about to leave the Bald Eagles nest sight when a hawk intruded on the eagle's self imposed "no fly zone". The eagles were perches several trees away from their nest. I saw the hawk out of the corner of my eye and as I was turning my camera to the hawk the eagles appeared. Both eagles flew up at the hawk. I chose to follow one of the eagles. Exciting sequence. Needless to say, the hawk vanished into the clouds.

Not For The Squirmish

I was looking for song birds and there it was. The general name for this type of snake is "Garter". The Garter snake is a Colubrid snake genus (Thamnophis) common across North America.

Some Of You Have Already Heard . . .

that I captured a sequence of a Bald Eagle in attack mode. That sequence is coming soon. I wanted to give a little love to my friend the Robin. If I had posted the eagle first, the Robin would have been overlooked.

A Closer Look

The eye of a horse is the path to it's soul. I so understand the mystique that surrounds these beautiful animals.

I Wanted To Capture The Horse's Spirit

He is a very contented, gentle loving horse. I had to keep moving around the fence because he would come over to me. I would move, he would move. I would be proud to own this animal.

There Is Always One . . .

Forgive me for the photo quality but this scene amused me so that I just had to share it. Which kid were you?

The Song Birds Are Arriving At Nisqually Refuge

On my way home from the Columbia Gorge Photo Shoot, I stopped at the Nisqually Refuge. Ten minutes later I had this image of one of the new arrivals. It's song bird season and I was pleased to have heard this little yellow song bird.

Once You've Seen Metlako Falls, You Will Remember The Name

As I ascended above the canyon I was taken by the quiet and never ending beauty.  At times the scenery made me think I had entered a fairy tale.

Bringing Home The Bacon . . . I mean fish

You won't believe where this Osprey has picked to build it's nest. Do you know those old steel bridges. That's it. Right on top of the steel beams. When the logging trucks pass over the bridge, the bridge quakes.

Entering The Gorge

What a difference a day makes. Last time I tried photographing from this location the images didn't have what I wanted. This week I didn't want to stop taking images. It was simply beautiful.

The Perfect Stream

Most people would think a foggy, rainy day would be a poor day for photography. Last week contained a record setting rainy day. I ventured to photograph Punch Bowl Falls, in the Columbia Gorge region of Oregon. I know rain was going with me. My equipment was protected, I got soaked. Images like this will stay in my mind for a long time. I met some very talented photogs, all in all a great photo shoot.

A Finer Place I've Rarely Seen

The Columbia Gorge is frankly put, a magical place. While hiking to photograph Punch Bowl Falls, I was treated to a display of natures beauty I had rarely seen.

I'm Going To Ride The Thermals

The sky is opening to blue and this young Bald Eagle is headed for the thermals. Sort of like a teenager going for a ride in his first car.

As A Kid, I Thought Mike Fink Had A Cool River Boat

You see a lot of these 'river boats' navigating the waterways of Washington State. Seeing this boat brought back a lot of childhood dreams about living on the river with the likes of Davy Crockett and Tom Sawyer.

That's Right, Smile For The Camera

I guess I might be getting a little addicted to Raptures. They are hard to find, harder to get close to them and impossible to get them to smile.

Beauty May Be In The Eye Of The Beholder

Today I was posted below an eagles nest, wanting to capture the eagle's coming and going. As you can imagine there are long stretches of time waiting for the brief adrenolin rush of the eagle's flight. I turned my head to see this scene. The eagles were not as accomadating today.
