Spring Melt

When I look at the melting ice on this branch, I visualize crystal earings.

Spring Snow Hike

Spring time hiking in the Washington Cascades requires snow shoes. The scenery is spectacular. This image was taken near Lake Tipsoo. The stream that feeds the lake starts to cut through the snow, revealing the aqua clear stream water.

What Camera is the Best

I wanted to revisit the image used in yesterdays posting re:Katie's Day.

People ask, "what is the best camera to have?" The answer most often given, "the camera you have with you."

This photo was taken with my iPhone 3GS. It is one of my favorite photos and if I didn't have a camera with me, that day, I would be poorer for it.

Yellow on Yellow

Sometimes you never know where the next good image will come from. I was walking through a wooded area when I noticed a yellow Tulip. Upon closer examination I could see a yellow spider on the yellow Tulip.

This is the start of the Tulip season and I anticipate you will be seeing more images relating to Tulips.

Springing Forward

They say it rains most of the time in the Seattle area. While that is the trend, the benefits are everywhere. This is a Rhododendron from my side yard.

Anacortes Wooden Pilons

Last week's onOne University Webinar with Brian Matiash was all about Black and White conversion.
The Anacortes wooden pilons photo was my subject for testing the effects I learned from the class.
How did I do?

Weekend at Ocean Shores

We are spending the weekend at the ocean. We expected rain but found clear skies when we got up.
I learned a valuable lesson today. Zip your camera bag when in the field.
I had just changed batteries, reached down for my tripod and heard things tumbling out of the unzipped pouch. If I had been on solid ground, I would have picked up the batteries that did the tumbling, learned my lesson and moved on. But no. I was out on a rather long rock jetty. The batteries were down a hole below several of the boulders.
Long story short, I used my tripod as chop sticks, got all the batteries and continued my shoot.

As Winter is passing away

For those of you who have experienced the power of a large waterfall, I say is it not awesome. For the rest of you, go find one.
Get an early start on the weekend.

The Journey

March 21st is always exciting to experience. The Spring Equinox. The first day of Spring. Time to look ahead.
I am still testing my blog and this seemed to be an appropriate photo for the journey.

Beginnings

This blog for me is a first. This will be a PhotoBlog.
I'll try to mix it up, there are lots of different types of photography.
Much of what I photograph is in the landscape category. My passion regarding nature; the rough, the majestic as well as the delicate started as a boy of about ten years of age. The Cascade mountains of Washington was where my father took me hiking and fishing. Drifting on a mountain lake watching a bald eagle use it's strong talons to pluck a large trout out of the water was the kind of experience that had to be part of my future.
As a young man, I would explore the California Sierra mountains. Hike where John Muir hiked. Always with a camera by my side.

I hope you enjoy my photo-journey.
