Welcome to my Photo Blog. I'll try to mix it up, there are lots of different types of photography. Much of what I photograph is in the landscape category. My passion regarding nature started as a boy. The Cascade mountains of Washington were where my father introduced me to hiking and fishing. Watching a bald eagle use its strong talons to pluck a large trout out of the water was the kind of experience that had to be part of my future. I hope you enjoy my photo-journey.

More From The Edge
Some of the waterfall images required traveling off trail. This is one of them. Makes me wonder how many people have actually seen an image like this?

At The Edge Of Mt. Rainier
Someone recently told me that there are actually people that don't like waterfalls, I can't imagine that this is true.
This week I went on a waterfall survey trip of the southern side of Mt. Rainier. I say survey because locating some of the falls I want to photograph will require additional trips, mainly due to the amount of hiking time required to reach a specific waterfall.

First Visit To Lake Cushman
Lake Cushman sits on the east side of the Olympic Mountains. This area is a gateway into the Olympic National Forest. What a gateway it is. The next few days will be images from the Staircase entrance.

The Native Americans say . . . .
"With the Lenticular Clouds comes the rains". Fall was ushered in with these Lenticular Clouds. How do you argue with Nature?

This Was A Tough Shot To Capture
So I lied, one more image from summer. Dragonflies are tough to capture. They are always on the move. Capturing them inflight is even more difficult.

Summer Extension Image
I'm not quite ready to embrace the fall, although I'll be spending quite a bit of time in the Olympic and Cascade mountains the next two weeks. Ok, I'm ready to move on.

Sunflowers In September
The Soos Creek Botanical Garden includes a Demonstration Garden. I didn't sample the sunflowers but I did eat some of the corn, (on the cob). Good eats.

I'm The Last One To Give Up On Summer
Although I think I'm the last person to surrender to Autumn and give up on Summer, I was compelled to offer this image today. I captured the leaves of Autumn last year and have been waiting for six months to share it with all of you. Enjoy it but don't give up on Summer until you want too.

Do You Get Tired Just Looking At This Beast Of Burden?
While visiting Leavenworth, Washington this past weekend, I came upon this fellow. Maybe a "she". I immediately felt tired. When I look at this photo I get tired. If you don't want to get tired, don't look at this image.

It's A Duck's Life
The Soos Creek Botanical Garden includes a very large pond. I tried to move, ever so slowly, so as to get closer to these ducks. They were having none of it. Off they would swim to another distance part of the pond. I was thankful for my telephoto lens. Got'cha.

Photography Isn't Just Art, It's Adventure
These little flowers were tucked back in a corner, under some bushes. I almost missed them. Glad I didn't.

Nailing Down The Orange
Some colors are difficult to reproduce in photos. I've had problems with vivid orange flowers in the past. I think, this time, I nailed it.

The Sun Is Setting On Our Summer Color
The Soos Creek Botanical Garden was a surprise addition to my life this summer. Part of the Garden was set aside for a Demonstration Garden. How they make the vegetables grow so devinely amazes me. I expect that this Sunflower will be the last of the summer color.

The Big Tumble
The Ohanapecosh River tumbles down the canyon for about a half mile before the big tumble over Silver Falls. My next visit, later this week, will be to explore that half mile.

Slow Down . . . You're Moving To Fast
I was eager to photograph another part of Ohanapecosh River when I glanced at this scene. A small eddy of a stream was almost missed in the hurry of the obvious. Stopping and taking the time to see what is there can be very rewarding. It's helpful to remember Paul Simons words, "slow down, you're moving to fast. Got to make the morning last". Hiking does slow you down, and that's good.

Cool, Clear, Water
Mountain streams are refreshing just to look at and to hear the rush as the water splashes down into another pool, then another.

Cascading Streams
The Silver Falls Loop Trail is a visual feast. Small streams cascade their way into Ohanapecosh River.

Downstream From Silver Falls
Silver Falls is 1.2 miles upstream from the Ohanapecosh Campground. Wonderful hike that brings you to this sight. Later in the week, I will explore the river upstream from this view. Stay tuned.

Ohanapecosh Week - Wild River
Today was "Bliss". I've wanted to re-explore the Ohanapecosh River area and today was the day. It has been said that the Ohanapecosh River has some of the best "wild river" viewing in Washington. Today made me a believer. I will show you some reason's why as we go through the week.

Ohanapecosh Inhabitant
High in the pine trees of the Ohanapecosh region of Mt. Rainier, the demure Pine White Butterfly lives, breeds and is gone. I visited this region for the waterfalls, but was treated by hundreds of these butterflies.

Little Miss Attitude
It was a family outing at Coos Bay dunes. That didn't stop "little miss attitude" from strutting her stuff. It's a great helmet and a great girl wearing it. Quads Forever!

Strutting His Stuff
Quite the display. This Dragonfly is quite the flashy fellow. Although I'm not even sure of that. Could be a Madam Dragonfly.

I Think The Sign Says It All
I drive past this side street and think about this old barn. Past its prime, for sure. I wanted to find a foggy morning to photograph this scene but I got impatient. Maybe by Halloween I'll get another chance.

Colorado In September
The Aspen trees of Colorado put on quite the display in the fall. This image was taken early in the transformation. Greens to yellows, to oranges, to reds. John Denver's, "Colorado Mountain High" seems understated.

Another View Of Kolob Canyon
Views like this do tend to make one feel small and yet at the same time give one a sense of being part of something big.

What Do You Think?
The girls think, "kiss him". The boys think, "squish him". The teacher thinks, "let's watch him swim". I think, " let's find him a birch tree". What do you think?
